Violeta is running a race again to raise money for the school she loves!
The race for kids is called La Vuelta, which means “to go around” because they’ll be running around the block of their school the day before Liz and many other parents and teachers run a 1/2 Marathon in early May!
Please read more about why we are running, and why this school means so much to our family here: https://donate.oneworldproject.org/team_member/liz-ligon-papapietro/
So whether you give to Violeta’s page or Liz’s page, we are hoping to help the school raise over $60K to help cover the two free Universal Pre-K classes that Violeta is loving this year. The Department of Education gives only a fraction of what it actually costs to run the program.
We asked Violeta what she loves about One World Project, and she said “Me gusta mi escuela porqué tengo mi area favorita – Dramatico.” And then she listed all of her teachers names, her friends, and some other places at OWP she loves to play – the mulch, the patio… These are all parts of the program what will be supported with this fundraising effort – health care for the teachers, special programing that takes place in all the different areas of the school like music and the outdoor garden.
When we asked her what she loved about the race last year, she said “I’m going ro race now all the way from your bedroom to the living (room)… and then jump into the laundry” so we’ll try to ask her that again another time haha. But obviously she’s ready to run!
Gracias from our family and many others!
On Sunday, January 7 at noon we’ll brave the cold at Coney Island and jump in the ocean for our Bano Polar to support OWP.
On Friday, May 3 as part of our Half Weekend. We’ll gather at One World Project and the kids (and some grownups) will run or walk or scoot along Vanderbilt, down East 3rd, up, along Greenwood Avenue, and up East 4th. We’ll end the race with a celebration and everyone will get an upcycled medal of participation.
On Saturday, May 4 we will join half marathoners for an epic running journey.
The route starts at the 69th Street Pier and goes along the Hudson river just under the Verrazano Bridge in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
With love and care we have built a nurturing school and community center committed to learning. We want to sustain what makes OWP so special and grow our community fund so that OWP is accessible to more families. Together we’ll be working to raise $60,000 to support OWP.
We truly appreciate anything you are able to give.
